Dario Franceschini’s man in the North is a problem for Schlein. And next week brings a new twist: Pierfrancesco Majorino is launching his candidacy

“Would my double surname prevent me from going out to speak to people in working-class neighbourhoods? That’s a truly short-sighted remark. Calabresi and Majorino? Two sides of the same coin.” says the Forza Italia mayoral candidate.

On both sides, Milan’s mayors and mayoral candidates come from the city’s middle class. Salvini’s candidate could break the cycle, but only if she manages to get voters in the suburbs to the polls

Among Milan’s centre-right parties, success will go to whoever manages to get ‘their’ candidate elected. The prevailing view is that participation is a value in itself – not for Decubertinian reasons, but for purely mathematical ones: more councillors, higher percentages, greater visibility

Will they go ahead or not? The centre-left is unlikely to be able to put it off indefinitely, even if this is the wish of the extremely influential national secretary, Elly Schlein

The journalist is becoming a problem for the secretary. With him in the running, how can the primaries be avoided? The management in Milan, which has its finger on the pulse of the region, had warned well in advance: if he decides to hold them, they will be hard to avoid. And he has decided

The mayor is right regarding the investigation (but what is the offence?). However, it is wrong to offer to ‘back down’. Errors in political approach
