The Rome Review Court has confirmed the pre-trial detention of the fixer, the confessed instigator of the attack outside Sigfrido Ranucci’s home. His lawyers have announced they will appeal, whilst investigations continue into the ‘time gaps’ in his chats with the journalist.

Ranucci rules out standing for election, points to his lead in the polls and says he wants to continue with his investigations. But as for his future away from "Report", he remains vague for the time being.

The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office investigated Lavitola as the instigator of the attack but then released him, allowing him 37 days to speak to anyone, including Ranucci, thereby compromising the evidence. Now the prosecutors have discovered that Lavitola has deleted many of the chats he exchanged with Ranucci, but to recover them, they have not seized the former Report presenter’s mobile phone.
