It doesn’t stir things up, it doesn’t break through, it doesn’t set the agenda; it plays it safe. The disruptive element coincided with a sudden, mind-blowing political escalation – one that has taken shape on the right – which we could summarise with an acronym: ‘Isg’, isolating the general. 

Low wages, inadequate schools and a stalled social ladder are real problems. But many protests also target the market, NATO, collective defence and Western democracies. It is up to the institutions to ensure the law is upheld. Parents have the less visible but crucial task of explaining why the world their children are protesting against also offers solutions to their problems.

Downplaying, the misuse of ‘yes, but’, and the state being at fault whatever it does. When a city is put to the sword, there are responsibilities that it would be foolish not to recognise. But alongside these responsibilities, there is also a lack of responsibility stemming from instincts that often rear their heads in public debate when the subject of street violence is raised.
