The PD, AVS and M5S have tabled a joint motion to be put to the vote during Minister Giorgetti’s statement on the budgetary deviation for defence and energy expenditure: the ‘no arms’ stance is adopted and the reformists protest. The majority, however, amends the text on the SAFE: funding military expenditure becomes a possibility and, should it be utilised, it is envisaged that it will also be used for ‘security’. The Chamber will vote only on the majority resolution

The Carroccio MP has shared one of our articles on social media in which Giorgetti urges caution. The senator said: “We’re at an earlier stage; you’ll see how I vote in Parliament when the time comes. I’m against using the fund – I’m making that clear in every possible way.”

The President of the Veneto Regional Council: “Extend the scope of self-defence only where psychological stress is involved. The jeweller’s case is a textbook example. He sought confrontation without protecting himself.” On the North and the “party of the nostalgic”, he says: “Salvini never said those things. The North and South are inextricably linked.” A ‘yes’ to preferential voting

The former Deputy Prime Minister and current EU diplomat in the Persian Gulf appears before the Chamber on the day Grillo resumes his attacks on the Five Star Movement: “His statements are linked to the fact that a ruling is due on the symbol, and so it is only natural that one of the two parties should use the issue of founding values – as a founder – to claim a share or the integrity of that symbol.” Timing

“We are in agreement with our allies 90 per cent of the time. On the issues of support for Ukraine and defence spending, there are differing views, but I am optimistic,” says the Democratic senator

The mayoral candidate for Milan, the ‘Italian Mamdani’, speaks out: “Security is one of the city’s problems and it is getting worse as inequalities worsen. We need educators – both men and women – in troubled neighbourhoods who are paid properly, drawing on revenue from the tax on the wealthy as well.” And on the No Tav protests: “No comment.”

The former Minister for Economic Development told Il Foglio: “Elly Schlein and Ukraine? We have a very clear view: Einstein said that stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again whilst hoping for a different result. Renzi doesn’t win votes, and if you call him ‘unreliable’, you’re giving him power. Delmastro? Either they have something to hide, or they want to attack the judiciary.”

The leader of Italia Viva and the general have been trading barbs and jibes on social media for days. A rivalry played out with gloved fists, between sprints and strokes in the water. But they’re lucky that Beppe Grillo isn’t competing against them. The Under-Secretary for Relations with Parliament, swimmer and president of the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN), Barelli, told "Il Foglio": “My federation will provide lifeguards free of charge, because I really do fear there will be a need for them.”
