Borghi (Lega): “It seems to me that the government is backtracking on Safe, which is something I welcome”
The Carroccio MP has shared one of our articles on social media in which Giorgetti urges caution. The senator said: “We’re at an earlier stage; you’ll see how I vote in Parliament when the time comes. I’m against using the fund – I’m making that clear in every possible way.”
“From what I’ve read in your newspaper, it seems the government is backtracking on the Safe bill, which is something I welcome,” says Lega senator Claudio Borghi. When contacted by Il Foglio, the Lega MP commented on our article in which we revealed the caution that Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti had urged MPs to exercise: “Think it over,” he said.
This morning, Borghi shared the article on his social media channels, writing: “But dear Minister! ‘Think it through???’ Anyone who really wanted to think it through has thought it through very carefully and concluded that Safe is such a blatant trap that it’s a step below the fake tunnel painted on Wile Coyote’s wall.”
Tomorrow, our Finance Minister will be in the House of Commons to discuss the activation of the national safeguard clause for public expenditure on defence and energy. Today, however, he will hold an informal meeting with the committees on the same subject. The SAFE is ancillary to these measures. Borghi explains: “The SAFE isn’t coming before Parliament just yet; we’re at an earlier stage.” Will he vote against it? “You’ll see when the vote takes place. But I’m against it – I always say so in every possible way!”
