As reported by Il Foglio, the journalist announced yesterday that he was stepping down from his role as director of Chora Media and divesting his shares in the company to pursue a ‘new, non-editorial path’. Calenda and Picierno are explicitly calling for this: ‘Support him without a leadership contest’. But Majorino and others are also in the running. What will Schlein do? Meanwhile, Calabresi is relying on Maurizio Baruffi, former chief of staff to the ex-‘orange’ mayor Giuliano Pisapia.

The former editor-in-chief of Rep and CEO of Chora Media informed his colleagues this morning at the company, which produces podcasts and social media content, of his intention to enter the political arena. The official announcement was made in a press release this afternoon, followed by his first public appearance as a candidate at the Festa dell’Unità in Milan on 12 September.

The mayoral candidate for Milan, the ‘Italian Mamdani’, speaks out: “Security is one of the city’s problems and it is getting worse as inequalities worsen. We need educators – both men and women – in troubled neighbourhoods who are paid properly, drawing on revenue from the tax on the wealthy as well.” And on the No Tav protests: “No comment.”

The councillor for Milan’s First Municipality is campaigning in the suburbs, watermelons in hand, to “develop the programme in a participatory manner”. And what about maximalist ideas in foreign policy? “The mad arms race at the expense of welfare is the greatest harm that can be done to citizens”

The mayor is right regarding the investigation (but what is the offence?). However, it is wrong to offer to ‘back down’. Errors in political approach
