“We will do everything we can to stop the electoral law, from public campaigns to legal challenges. I would prefer Schlein to lead the broad coalition, but there is currently no coalition. We are not afraid of disappearing,” says the party secretary

The former secretary and party president, Matteo Hallissey, secured the approval of the party assembly for a motion calling for a new party congress, which they announced would take place in early December (4th, 5th and 6th). The secretary and his supporters consider the move unlawful: “It is a vote of no confidence in the secretary without the two-thirds majority required by the party constitution to remove him.” They have announced they will appeal. Behind the clash lie three different strategies for the elections: those who want to go it alone, those who want to align with Renzi, and those who want to align with Calenda.
