Serie A will once again be available free-to-air in the 2026/27 season. On Saturday 23 October, at 6.00 pm, the big match between Napoli and Roma will be broadcast free-to-air on DAZN, even for those without a subscription to the platform. The initiative forms part of the television rights agreement with Lega Serie A, which allows DAZN to broadcast up to a maximum of five matches per season free-to-air out of a total of 380.
This option was introduced in 2024/25 with the new rights cycle, and the OTT platform has decided to make use of it for the third consecutive year, with the aim of expanding the audience and boosting the league’s visibility. To watch the match at the Maradona Stadium, there is no need to take out a paid subscription, but free viewing will be subject to a limit: up to two million non-subscribers will be able to access the live broadcast. This threshold represents the maximum capacity set for the event, whilst for those who already hold a DAZN subscription, the match will remain available as normal without restrictions.
The decision to broadcast Napoli v Roma comes at a time when Serie A viewing figures are on the rise. According to data analysed at the League’s latest meeting, after six matchdays this season, the combined average audience for DAZN and Sky had reached 6,027,352 viewers per matchday, compared with 5,910,957 for the same period last year. This represents an increase of 1.97 per cent, equivalent to over 116,000 more viewers on average per matchday. These figures include only matches broadcast individually. The free broadcast of certain high-profile fixtures is one of the strategies through which the Serie A League and its main television partner aim to attract viewers who do not usually follow the league.
