Soumahoro: "What do I have to do with Tabacci? He dealt with regulations for migrants."
The MP, formerly a leading figure in Avs, explains his decision to join the parliamentary group proposed by Riccardo Magi (to circumvent the requirement to collect signatures under the new electoral law). “My future? We’ll see; political activity can also be carried out outside Parliament.”

“What do I have to do with them? I’m revealing this for the first time. Thirty years ago, there was the first debate on the regularisation of migrants, initially restricted to domestic workers and carers only. On that occasion, Tabacci spoke out in favour of extending regularisation to other jobs as well, and I was one of those included.” This was stated by Aboubakar Soumahoro, an MP from the Mixed Group, on the programme Un giorno da pecora on Rai Radio 1. Responding to a question regarding the request made in recent days by Riccardo Magi for the creation of a new parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies (in order to circumvent the need to collect signatures for the forthcoming elections following the introduction of the new electoral law), the former leading figure of AVS explains his choices and attributes them to the views of Bruno Tabacci, leader of the Democratic Centre.
When asked about rumours that had circulated in the past regarding a move to the centre-right, he added: "In reality, there were various approaches from both sides of the political spectrum, but I made a different choice; for me, values come first and foremost." Regarding a possible re-election bid in the forthcoming elections, he explained: “My commitment is to see this term through; then, at the appropriate time, we will assess the situation – political activity can also be carried out outside Parliament.”
