Grillo is still on the attack. The anti-Conte offensive is being waged via Fedez’s podcast

Standing in the Pulp Podcast studio flanked by the two presenters, Fedez and Mr Marra, Belle Grillo returns to public speaking. And she chooses to do so on the programme hosted by the rapper and influencer who, in 2014, wrote ‘Non sono partito’, the anthem of the Five Star Movement. Over ten years later, everything has changed. The movement born from the ideas of Gianroberto Casaleggio and Grillo’s street rallies is now firmly in the hands of Giuseppe Conte, becoming – in stark contrast to Fedez’s song – a fully-fledged political party in every sense.

However, the comedian and founder is not acquiescing. In April, he initiated civil proceedings against Conte to reclaim the party’s name and symbol. At the end of July, following the postponement of the court hearing, Grillo returned to launch a scathing attack on his blog: “The Movement has lost its distinctiveness. The revolutionaries have discovered the corridors of power,” he wrote in a lengthy post. Now a new offensive could come via the podcast, just as Conte’s party is in the midst of discussions with its broad coalition allies over the programme and, above all, the method for selecting the coalition leader.
