Ranucci, the candidate who doesn’t want to stand for election: “I’m on 7 per cent, just like Vannacci”

In Rome, in the Garbatella neighbourhood, where yesterday he presented his book "Il ritorno della casta", Sigfrido Ranucci found himself talking mainly about himself. He spoke of his future at Rai, of investigative journalism and, inevitably, of politics. Despite “the greatest character assassination in history”, as he himself described it, the journalist appeared reinvigorated by the SWG poll published by La7, which gives him a 7 per cent approval rating: “Practically the same as Vannacci after a year of election campaigning,” commented the former presenter of *Report*.

There is also another figure that he himself mentioned whilst speaking to AdnKronos on the sidelines: “63 per cent of Italians consider me credible to lead the country. But Mentana doesn’t mention this.”

So, are you standing for election? “What candidacy? What politics? I want to carry on doing investigative journalism. They’ve made such a fuss to get rid of me and remove me from Report because, perhaps, the political world fears me more as an investigative journalist,” was the journalist’s curt reply to the press agency.

The question of ‘where’ he will continue to carry out his investigations remains unanswered. Ranucci is awaiting answers on this point. “Of course, with the same key contacts, I reckon it’ll be tough,” he says, referring to Viale Mazzini, “but I want to continue my civic commitment, to fight for civil rights and to stand alongside the most vulnerable and those most in need.” Which means everything and nothing at all.
