Furgiuele (Fn): “Forget prison. Gramsci was on holiday in Turi”

This is the story according to Domenico Furgiuele, the left-wing library of the Vannaccian ‘God, country and family’. The FN representative says: “Antonio Gramsci? What prison? He was on holiday in Turi.” What? And what about Mussolini, the fascist regime that imprisoned him and led to his death? Did we hear that right? “Yes, on holiday,” he confirms. Then again, Furgiuele makes no secret of it. As he has said on several occasions: “My only point of reference died on 28 April 1945”. At the FN’s constituent assembly, he had greeted the audience with an unequivocal: “Dear comrades”. The Futurist MP, however, wishes to clarify his position on the founder of the Italian Communist Party. Please: “I have studied Gramsci; I am a great admirer of his”. He explains that he appreciated Gramsci’s condemnation of the indifferent. “The most serious thing is precisely indifference; it’s still a problem today. Anyone who wants to go into politics must have read Gramsci.” But that’s not all. “From Gramsci to Evola.” And Karl Marx? “No, not Marx.” Although he is often quoted by General Vannacci, in a way that, within the general’s line of reasoning, serves to justify remigration. Let us return, meanwhile, to Furgiuele’s reading list and discover that in the bookshelf of the most elegant of the Futurists there is also a book by Giuseppe Provenzano, the PD’s foreign affairs spokesperson and former Minister for the South. “I’ve read ‘La sinistra e la scintilla’; it’s a fine book. I agree with its argument. It explains well why the Left no longer exists. Indeed – the Futurist reconsiders – only Federico Fornaro remains, with his exegeses of regulations, as a social democrat. And then – Furgiuele concludes – Gianni Cuperlo, with his exegeses of the Constitution.” It really is a world turned upside down; is this the true Right?
