Meloni ready to return to Puglia; the last Council of Ministers meeting was on 4 August. Schlein’s summer is not a militant one

On 4 August, the final Council of Ministers meeting will take place and the government is preparing – as some managers might put it – for the ‘summer break’. The hunt is on for the Prime Minister’s holiday. Where is she going? Given that there are rumours of a rift with the Berlusconis and Forza Italia, and given that it’s best to stay in Italy, the Prime Minister is said to have every intention of returning to the Itria Valley. She doesn’t want anyone to know where she’s going; if you ask, they’ll reply, ‘That’s enough, she’s off to the Netherlands’. One thing is certain: it’s a different sort of summer. Elly Schlein is giving up her campaign-filled summer (we don’t even know what the programme for the Festa dell’Unità is), and the second event in Padua (remember the PD’s big rally?) has been cancelled to avoid any embarrassment (in Naples, Schlein was so shaken by the shouts that she took refuge behind the stage). It’s been a complicated year, and as Meloni says, “it’ll be even worse”. With the election campaign looming, the rifle (better not), the flippers and the goggles. Have a good holiday (but a holiday from what, as Marchionne would say?).
