The 14-year and 9-month prison sentence handed down to jeweller Mario Roggero, who killed two robbers on 28 April 2021 following a raid on his shop, has been definitively upheld. Roggero has become a symbol for Salvini and Vannacci, but taking the law into one’s own hands has nothing to do with self-defence

The investigation led by Milan’s deputy public prosecutor, Maurizio Ascione, since 2024 has come to an end. It was triggered by a complaint lodged with the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office by a lawyer and Verona supporter, who claimed that, following an alleged foul by Inter during a goal, the VAR had failed to alert the referee

Following the investigations, which began in April 2026, no evidence has emerged to suggest any intention to influence the appointment of match officials. The investigators found no evidence of "a structured system designed to interfere with appointments". The case files are now being passed to the FIGC and CONI to assess whether any disciplinary action is warranted

The new security bill amends a provision of the Civil Code: anyone defending themselves against a crime is not liable to pay compensation to their attacker. However, the measure – which was inspired by the case of the Piedmontese jeweller and passed the day before the Supreme Court’s ruling – cannot be applied in his case. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court judges have ruled: the sentence of fourteen years and nine months is now final
