Neo-Nazis attack Italian Jewish youths: the assault at a hotel in Bulgaria

A group of neo-Nazis wearing black T-shirts bearing a skull and shouting “Sieg Heil!” attempted to force their way into a hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria, where dozens of teenagers, including some from the Jewish Community of Rome, were staying. Victor Fadlun, president of the Jewish Community of Rome, reported the incident on social media in a lengthy post published today. The incident took place last Sunday.

“Our children are not free to travel in Europe without being exposed to violence and verbal abuse from anti-Semites,” Fadlun denounces, describing “long, tense minutes”, not least because “after the police intervened, the neo-Nazis returned and once again blocked the entrances, threatening and shouting at our children”. “The Jewish Community of Rome strongly condemns this latest episode of anti-Semitism, which targets Italian Jewish teenagers and their educators in a European Union country,” continues Fadlun, calling on “the Bulgarian authorities to shed light on this attack and to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted as soon as possible”.
