The case
A "Report" on Ranucci’s latest figures will be required
In the row with correspondent Giorgio Mottola, Ranucci has revealed a previously unpublished figure regarding Report’s funding: 330,000 euros a year, more than had previously been reported. This new information raises questions about the reliability of the figures that have been circulating and about leaks from Rai. And it is also causing tensions to rise within the editorial team

A report on the figures from Report (released by Ranucci) will be required. In his tirade against Giorgio Mottola, the correspondent whom Ranucci now regards as a traitor – his ‘Brutus’ – Ranucci writes: ‘He hasn’t fared badly financially either, given that he managed to earn around 330,000 euros a year by selling his investigative reports (with editing and travel costs included in the price: the highest figure of all the contributors).’ In addition to facilitating a leak of RAI data (a leak Ranucci attributes to RAI), Ranucci goes further. He introduces a figure that has never appeared either in the pages of Il Foglio or in the table published by Il Tempo. It is a new figure, higher than the one published. In addition to circulating new Rai data and new figures (figures that earned the writer the label ‘false’, figures that Il Foglio never linked to the names of Report’s correspondents), Ranucci raises a suspicion: what are Report’s real figures? Those published by Il Tempo, which are lower, or Ranucci’s, which are higher? The spread has widened at Report too.
