A Place in the Sun: the clash between Marina and Greta

Marina forbids Roberto from seeing Greta, and he replies that he has never in his life allowed others to dictate how he should behave. She, however, quite rightly points out that he has never taken any interest in his daughter his whole life, merely paying her child support. And now, all of a sudden, he’s so interested. After all, even with Juseph, she seemed to have no other interest in life than being with him, and now this child has also vanished from view. Just like Sandro and all the other children she’s scattered across the globe. It’s understandable that the character is like this, but even the writers are capitalising on it by going over the top. Greta continues to linger around Palazzo Palladini, and eventually Marina tells her bluntly to stay away from her husband and disappear. The young woman retorts that Marina should seek treatment for her obsession, at which point Marina seizes a bucket of water and douses her. Roberto, who happens to be watching the scene from a window, observes the entire exchange. (a.d.)
