Power to Salis! •
Cremaschi (former Fiom member) says: “Conte or Schlein? Silvia Salis is better. Landini? Moderate. He’ll back Elly in the primaries.”
The former president of Fiom, now with Potere al Popolo, rejects the ‘Campo largo’ coalition, dismisses the CGIL secretary and endorses the mayor of Genoa: “She took to the streets with the dockworkers and the USB, the real trade union.” On Ukraine, he proposes nuclear disarmament and the dissolution of NATO. Should Youssef stand as a candidate? “Moni Ovadia would be better.”

Giorgio Cremaschi ANSA/TINO ROMANO
To paraphrase Nenni: if you compete against a true communist, you’ll always find a communist who’ll purge you. Power to the People and (a voice) for Giorgio Cremaschi, former president of Fiom: “Between Conte, Schlein and Silvia Salis? Salis is better. She’s intelligent. She took to the streets with the dockworkers and the USB, the real trade union.” Landini? “A moderate who’ll get people to vote for Schlein in the primaries.” Ukraine? “It can be saved through total disarmament and the dissolution of NATO.” Put Youssef forward as a candidate? “Better Moni Ovadia.” Shalom.
The inexperienced communists (and even Acerbo of Rifondazione Comunista) want to hop on the ‘Freccia Lenin’, the red carriage of Campo Largo, but he will not. It is Cremaschi, the fiery metalworker who will not be bolted to his seat. Cremaschi, who do the protest squares belong to? “They certainly don’t belong to the PD. That party has nothing to do with the streets.” Power to the People, but who should we vote for? “You can’t vote for this Campo Largo line; it ranges from Renzi to Acerbo. It’s impossible to govern.” His own Power to the People, the party that boos the PD – whose side is it on? “It’s with the USB, the trade union which, unlike the CGIL, doesn’t support Meloni’s economic policy.” Does Landini support Meloni? “Not only that, but also Confindustria’s policies. Landini is just a side issue.” Landini, who? “A moderate who won’t be standing in the general election. For the time being.” Who does the CGIL support in the primaries? “The CGIL’s ‘deep state’ – I’m thinking of the pensioners’ union – will come to an agreement with the PD’s ‘deep state’.” Will Schlein win? “I think so.” Cremaschi: between Conte and Schlein? “I’d prefer Conte.” AVS? “It’s a faction outside the PD.” So does that leave only Potere al Popolo, you, and leader Marta Collot? “Not just us. There are young people taking part in the struggle.” Never with Campo Largo? “Let’s not joke about it. Our programme is clear: a total break with Israel, no to rearmament, no to austerity.” Isn’t that similar to Campo Largo’s programme? “Campo Largo favours free-market economics. I reckon they’ll come to an agreement on Ukraine. But what will the mediation involve? Who knows, or perhaps…?” And what about you? “We must offer Russia something and save Ukraine.” What? “Total nuclear disarmament and the dissolution of NATO. Only then can we negotiate with Putin.” Perfect. Go on. Conte, Schlein or Salis from Genoa? “Well, Salis has shown herself to be extremely intelligent. She took part in the commemoration of Carlo Giuliani, and took to the streets with the dockworkers and the USB.” The trade union even more left-wing than the CGIL, which is set to bring Italy to a standstill on 12 December? “A trade union working in logistics that will call on Meloni to step down.” Which senator will Potere al Popolo borrow? “None.” So no election campaign? “If the Constitutional Court doesn’t change the law, we’ll stay out. We won’t ask for help.” With the left in government? “The left’s state of confusion could lead to a victory for the right.” Tough, uncompromising and backing Salis (who’s even had her hair cut, mind you). We’ve even got Potere a Silvia!
