Manfredi’s ANCI party with Morandi and Veltroni
The annual general meeting of the National Association of Italian Municipalities opens on 25 November in Verona, with Sergio Mattarella in attendance. Enrico Mentan will close the meeting and act as moderator. It will be a marathon session, with the mayor of Naples taking centre stage.

There was a mayor who, like him – Gaetano Manfredi of Naples – loved Veltroni, Gianni Morandi, Roberto Garofoli and the Rolling Stones… The ANCI annual assembly is better than Sanremo, just like the Rome Film Festival, organised by the ‘emperor’ Salvo Nastasi. It opens on 25 November in Verona, with Sergio Mattarella, and gets off to a proper start. The national anthem of Mameli will be performed by Gianni Morandi, followed by a talk by Walter Veltroni – described in the programme as a ‘journalist, writer and director’ – on the topic ‘Glocal. Giorgio La Pira, a mayor and peace’. Veltroni: would he be better suited to the Quirinale or to running La Gazzetta dello Sport?
Enrico Mentana will be closing and chairing the meeting (who is also about to part ways with Cairo’s La7. Dear Pharaoh Cairo, you’ve already found a replacement for Mentana: Alessandra Sardoni). It will be a marathon, and the star of the show is Manfredi, the president of ANCI and who knows what else in the future. With Morandi and Veltroni, we can sing: “Andavo a cento all’ora per trovar Palazzo Chigi, ye, ye, ye”.
