‘Comrade’ Crisanti: ‘I’m joining Rifondazione Comunista; Elly asked me to’
The PD is lending him to Maurizio Acerbo to support the fight against the signature threshold. Crisanti draws on his past in Potere Operaio, promotes Schlein and attacks the right: “Sono degli scappati di casa.”

Andrea Crisanti (Cecilia Fabiano/LaPresse)
“It’s true. I am the Bolshevik Andrea Crisanti. The PD is lending me to Maurizio Acerbo’s Rifondazione Comunista.” The vaccine for the (communist) revolution is brought to you by Andrea Crisanti, the virologist and PD senator.
Dear Crisanti, so are you switching to the mixed group to help Maurizio Acerbo’s Rifondazione Comunista avoid this impossible task of collecting signatures? “Elly Schlein’s PD is vigorously opposed to this penalty – this Mount Everest of 400,000 signatures – and so I’ve been asked to lend a hand. It’s in line with the PD’s position.” And yet now he’s become a comrade… the Bolshevik Crisanti… “To tell the truth, when I was younger I was more active on the left.” Virologia or Lotta Continua? “Potere Operaio”.
Crisanti, Elly’s worker? “A genuine leader, not a plastic one. She asked me to help and I’m doing so, but I would have helped other parties and groups too – though only those on the centre-left.” When should the primaries be held? “I say, the sooner they’re held, the better. We must send this right-wing lot packing – the ones dreaming of a ‘phalanx’ in Milan. They’ve been in power for four years and can’t handle the unrest. Now they’re sending in the army. What’s the point? What do we do tomorrow? Do we send in Gillo Pontecorvo’s ‘phalanx’ from La battaglia di Algeri? The truth is, they’re a bunch of runaways.” But now Crisanti’s home is communism… Question: does he have the hammer and sickle? “I’ll ask Acerbo now.” We have Comrade Crisanti, the vaccine against capitalism. Sing along: ‘Forward, virologist, to the rescue, red injection, red injection!’
