The Tricolour League. To survive Salvini, the local council is the refuge
The governors seek refuge from the internal conflict: Romeo in Monza, Fedriga in Trieste. Meanwhile, the dominance of Lady Verdin, the de facto secretary, and that of Silvia Sardone is becoming established

It may be more advantageous to hold a mayoralty than to openly criticise Salvini. Max Fedriga could stand for mayor of Trieste, Max Romeo could run in Monza, and finally there is Attilio Fontana, the ‘hidalgo’ who is leading the battle for the north, who may return to his hometown of Varese, where he has already served as mayor on two occasions. There has never been, nor will there ever be, peace between Salvini and the regional governors. The secretariat has already been expanded, but it is Francesca Verdini who is the real new secretary – the Lega’s ‘Evita’. Salvini is already preparing to oust the provincial coordinators of Bergamo and Brescia in order to reclaim the Lombardy branch of the Lega – the heart of the party – and entrust it to Silvia Sardone. Within the Lega, the only place left to continue practising free politics is the town hall.
