Emma Bonino: the story of a radical leader in pictures

Emma Bonino, former president of +Europa, died today in Rome, having been admitted to intensive care three days ago following a respiratory crisis. Bonino was 78 years old and had dedicated her life to the fight for civil rights, beginning with the campaign for the legalisation of abortion in the 1970s and continuing in various capacities over the years: as an activist and leader of the Radicals, but also as Foreign Secretary and Member of the European Parliament. In 2015, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer of the left lung, whilst at the same time announcing her intention to continue in politics.
