Meloni and the idea: local and general elections in September 2027
The Prime Minister is considering merging the events into a single date a year from now, partly for cost reasons. However, the feasibility of the choice matters more than the possibility itself.

Meloni and the elections. There is also this scenario: combining the local and general elections in September 2027. It is one of the options being considered to forge a shared path with Mattarella, envisaging a single election day. It should be noted that this is a hypothetical scenario under consideration, but it is being discussed within the government. The local elections have already been postponed (they were originally due to take place in the autumn). Practicality matters more than mere possibility. There is a law that allows for this, and in the past regional elections have been postponed due to Covid. In this case, it is a way of having a single election day, combining the polls and saving costs. At the moment, opinions are wavering. The debate swings from ‘vote now’ – to avoid helping Vannacci – to the reality of the situation, and to the veto by Tajani and Meloni, who are aiming for the natural expiry date. The PD is extending Schlein’s term as secretary, while Salvini is prolonging his own… The electoral law divides, but the fridge unites.
