Vannacci continues to rise in the polls and overtakes Forza Italia

First the Lega, then Forza Italia. And so Roberto Vannacci has virtually become the country’s fourth-largest political force. Almost a month on from SWG’s latest poll for La7, the institute’s new figures put the former general’s party at 7.5 per cent, thereby officially confirming that it has overtaken Giorgia Meloni’s allies. Salvini’s Lega had already been overtaken by FN two months ago, but now it is FI’s turn. Compared with 3 August – the date of the last survey – Forza Italia has lost 0.3 per cent, falling to 7.1 per cent, whilst the Lega, despite gaining 0.2 per cent, has risen only to 5.7 per cent. Shortly after the poll was published, the leader of Futuro Nazionale commented: “I don’t believe the polls from biased agencies, but if they keep telling you you’ve got a spot on your nose, at least take a look in the mirror.” As for the other centre-right political parties, Fratelli d’Italia remains firmly the nation’s leading party at 26.8 per cent, even though it has seen a slight fall (-0.2) over the last four weeks, whilst Noi Moderati has risen to 1.1 per cent (+0.1).

Among the opposition, however, the Democratic Party gained 0.1 per cent to reach 20.7 per cent, whilst the Five Star Movement fell to 12.7 per cent (-0.3). The Greens-Left Alliance, on the other hand, gained 0.2 per cent to reach 6.7 per cent. Among the centrist parties, Carlo Calenda’s Azione loses 0.1 per cent and falls to 3.2 per cent; Italia Viva remains stable at 2.4 per cent, as does Michele Boldrin’s Ora! at 1 per cent, whilst Più Europa rises by 0.1 per cent to 1.3 per cent.
