The two Giorgettis. In Milan (with Romeo) he dreams of a new League; in Rome on 8 September he is reviving Salvini’s League

Rome. “A difesa di Salvini” – that is how this episode should be reported. Last Friday, Giorgetti attended the governors’ meeting in Milan, alongside Attilio Fontana, Fedriga, Zaia and Fugatti (this is the meeting that Giorgetti denies took place, just as he denies that his name is Giancarlo). It was a meeting of high hopes, organised by various associations, to send a message to Salvini, to show him the discontent in the north. A few days later, Giorgetti (it’s him again) was in Rome with Salvini and Durigon, taking part in another meeting with a noble aim: how to revitalise Salvini’s Lega. There’s no contradiction with Giorgetti. The man is multifaceted. Another little piece of information: Max Romeo, secretary of the Lombardy Lega and leader of the party’s Senate group, was also present at the Milan meeting. Within the League, splitting into factions is the natural state of affairs. And even the rallies split. It has been reported that protests are feared in Pontida, and indeed another rally is being organised, ten days earlier. It is the rally to relaunch the League (the one Giorgetti, Durigon and Salvini were discussing) and will be held on 8 and 9 September in Rome. Its title is “A tua difesa. On the side of the Italians. Every day’. The title is magnificent. Every day in the League, in Milan, there is a Giorgetti who dreams of a new party, alongside the ‘hidalgo’ Fontana, Zaia, Fedriga and Fugatti, and then there is a Giancarlo who, in Rome, is working to strengthen Salvini. Defence is always legitimate, just as our sense of disorientation is legitimate.

Salvini, in Via Bellerio, before attending the Lombardy League meeting, suggested to Sánchez “to keep quiet and control his borders” and then added: “I won’t be announcing my move to the Ministry of the Interior at Pontida. If we win the elections and they ask me to return to the Ministry of the Interior, I’ll go back.”
