Even the incipient turn to christian-democrat by Silvio Berlusconi could be indexed under the heading “anarchy of politics”, just after the anarchy of values of which is accused by the “paolini” and the anarchy of economics referred to in today’s pages of this newspaper. The fact that Berlusconi (together with the PdL and the Lega) has accepted to join in the Senate with Giuseppe Pizza’s DC would not have been considered a particularly remarkable news in the last campaign and in the preceding ones. But this time is different, because the one who is sewing to his jacket the christian-democrat symbol as a sort of cultural badge is the Cavaliere in his most stubborn and majority mood. It could also be argued that Berlusconi’s christian-democrat turn might be seen in the restrained realism with which he is conducting the electoral campaign. Confident to win, he does not present himself to voters as the interpreter of a dream, has not heralded tax cuts and wavers between a quiet statism and the ambition to reform what is still possible to reform avoiding the threat of an economic stalemate.
